Saff: where the school comes together

Every day, before entering classrooms, the entire incoming shift gathers in the central courtyard for a 15-to-20-minute assembly known as Saff.

Over 3,000 students line up for each shift’s Saff.

What happens at Saff

Saff is a disciplined formation. Students stand at attention in straight queues, divided by class grid sections, and it is the central hub of school culture.

  • Administrative directives

The school’s announcements reach the whole shift at once.

  • The principal’s address

The principal speaks to students with a motivational message.

  • Student presentations

Students present to their peers on civic, academic or moral topics.

  • Merit honors

The school’s top-performing students are publicly awarded merit honors by the principal.

Student committees

Students also serve on three school committees. The Educational Committee coordinates competitions and oversees the quality of lessons. The Cultural Committee coordinates events and capacity-building seminars. The Order and Discipline Committee maintains order with the help of the Saarandoy.

The Saarandoy

The name translates to “police”. Each day, six volunteers from one class serve as the Saarandoy. Classes take turns in a queue, so every class’s turn comes around.
